Week 18 - Roof Trusses on both houses

We now have roof trusses on both houses - so they are really starting to take shape.  The crane was huge - I don't know how it fitted down the drive.

And after just two days, all the joists were on...

The roofers start in the second week of January and we have to choose the windows around the same time to make the house watertight.  How exciting to start work on the inside!

Week 16 - And so building work is complete!

The next stage of the mortgage is progressing well.  We are waiting for the valuer to come on Wednesday - which coincidentally is when the crane arrives with the roof.  Perhaps it could have been a quieter day?

In terms of building, this week has seen all of the brickwork complete.  We have walls for all of the internal rooms downstairs now - and a chimney place in the lounge.  And now we just await the roof....

Week 15 - Almost at wall to roof plate

It's been three weeks since we last posted.  As it's now Winter, we've been experiencing a few bad weather days and the builders had been concentrating on Mum and Dad's.  They've got them up to up to wall plate ready for the roof and by Monday, we will be joining them.  This will mean that the roof will be able to go on - the first stage of making our new house watertight. The roof is due to arrive along with cranes the week after next.

Of course, this also means that we need to release further funds from our self build mortgage and back into the administration nightmare!  To do this, we have to get sign off inspector warranty certificates and another valuation from the mortgage company.  Fingers crossed, it won't be as bad as it sounds!

We are at decision point with kitchens now - and we expect to choose who we will be using by next weekend.  We have also received our second bathrooms quote - this was a good price for some beautiful furniture from Pochins in Leicester.  We need to source tiles, taps and showers now and hopefully we can find ones we like from sister companies to Triton.

Our house now has floors upstairs, a temporary banister and some walls around the outside - take a look.....

The wind was so strong on Friday that the last bricks to be laid were blown off during the night, before the mortar had set...

This will be the space for the kitchen and family room...

The next post will be the roof going on - exciting times ahead before Christmas!
